Experience Sharing | Medical Admission Test | Abrar Rahman Abir
Assalamu Alaikum.
I am Abrar Rahman Abir. By the divine mercy and grace of Allah SWT I have ranked 1005th in MAT 2020-21 and been allotted to Chittagong Medical College.
When it comes to share experience of my admission journey to this phase, I must say, I definitely paved an unconventional path and let me explain why so. My father is a renowned ENT specialist and Head-Neck Surgeon. Hence, from my childhood I used to dream of becoming one like him. I used to dress like a surgeon and cut and stitch dolls as a part of my Doctor-Doctor game.
I was firm in my decision to become a doctor throughout my school days. After passing SSC from Ideal School and College in 2018,I got admitted into Notre Dame College, Dhaka. Then a drastic change came to me. Maybe, everyone knows, except a handful of students, all prepare for Engineering specially for BUET in NDC. Another big reason for it to be so is that NDC nurtures you for engineering admission test by setting extraordinarily difficult physics, chemistry problems from the very first year.
Since I was undefeated first boy in my school till class 10, I had an ambition to get a decent rank in college and finally I stood 9th in the first exam of NDC out of almost 2 thousand students. After that I was fueled with high confidence and emphasised more in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Eventually I started losing interest in Biology and altered my dream of being a doctor to an engineer.
I dedicatedly prepared for engineering stream with a very short glimpse of Biology alongside.
In March 2021, a month prior to MAT,my mother told me to appear for medical and I didn’t know how I can! I was not admitted to any medical coaching . I never practised even a single model test before MAT. It seemed impossible for me to bag a seat in medical and it was quite obvious!
Then I paused my engineering preparation and started wholeheartedly for MAT just a month prior to that! I only relied on my textbooks for Physics, Chemistry and Biology and solved previous BCS and Varsity questions for GK and English.
To complete all these stuff within a very limited time, I passed one of my challenging months in my life! Even I got distracted from my medical preparation in March for MIST and IUT admission test for a couple of days. ( I stood 140th and 112th in MIST and IUT respectively). I was always highly motivated by my dear mother throughout that tough time and I kept on trying. Finally Allah SWT has showered me with His blessings and gave me the most desired place of any MAT aspirant,Alhamdulillah!
My story is nothing special apart from a few points from where future aspirants can learn something,I hope. Firstly, it’s never too late to start your preparation, don’t get disheartened! Secondly, you don't need any coaching, guides and all these stuff to crack MAT! You just need your textbooks, long study hours and faith in Allah!
